The 500kV Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) project of State Grid Suzhou Southern Power Grid is the UPFC project with the highest voltage level and the largest capacity so far. The project is equipped with three sets of converters with a single-phase capacity of 250MVA and adopts a back-to-back connection. Two converters on the series side are connected to the Mudu-Meili 500kV double-circuit line through two series transformers, and one converter on the parallel side is connected in parallel The transformer is connected to the Mudu 500kV bus.
The project is independently designed, developed and constructed by my country. It is a major demonstration project of the State Grid Corporation of China. It is planned to be put into operation at the end of 2017. It will realize the flexible and precise control of the 500kV power grid flow for the first time in the world, and can make the southern Suzhou power grid clean. The increase in energy capacity by about 1200MW is another major breakthrough in the engineering application of flexible AC transmission technology.
